Competition Climbing

USMC is here to both help people improve and to develop elite climbers. We can help these climbers by offering physiotherapy, coaching, and even sponsorship so that they can reach their performance peak.

We encourage everyone (whatever your ability!) to compete in friendly competitions such as NUBS (Northern Universities Bouldering Series) and Varsity. These are a great opportunity to test your skills and to learn from watching other competitors.

The university has a climbing team who compete in national and international competitions. In 2017, the university team won the BUCS Nationals Bouldering Championships, and went on to place 4th in the European University Championships in Split, Croatia. In 2018, we came a close 2nd in NUBS to Sheffield Hallam, and at Varsity, the women's team came out on top, winning Uni of a point towards overall victory against Hallam (yet again). Last year, the women came 2nd at BUCS and the men’s 3rd.

If you want to know more about joining the climbing team, then speak to Alex, our climbing coordinator, or Gwyneth, the Team Captain.
