Ex- Committee 2017-18

Tom Drysdale - Chair

Email: mountaineering@sheffield.ac.uk

Favourite Climb: Oceano Irrazionale, Val di Mello

Tune of Choice: Comfortably Numb, Pink Floyd

Memorable Moment: Topping out of Vector, my first E2, on freshers weekend in second year, still seriously hungover but unbelievably psyched!

Tilly Scott - Secretary

Email: usmc.secretary@gmail.com

Favourite climb: One Step in the Clouds, Tremadog

Tune of choice: New Shoes, Paolo Nutini

Memorable Moment - Leading the Glyderau walk on Fresher's Weekend and getting everyone psyched for awesome walks!

Jacob Mackenzie - Treasurer

Email: usmc.treasurer1@gmail.com

Favourite Climb: Commando ridge, Bosigran

Tune of Choice: Down by the river, Milky Chance

Memorable Moment: Getting stuck on Valkyrie at The Roaches. I've never been so scared in my life. The step across is terrifying. Then getting lowered off through a holly bush was not my ideal end to the day. An awful idea letting Alex drag me up there!

Issy Budd- Publicity Officer

Email: usmc.publicity@gmail.com

Favourite Climb: Armorican, Caerfai Bay

Tune of Choice: Soul Time, Shirley Ellis

Memorable Moment: Attempting to take a photo for the club’s naked calendar by Derwentwater. Unfortunately just as we stripped off multiple families walked along and some kayakers also paddled by. Despite best efforts the photo can’t even be used because I was just a bit too naked for the naked calendar...

Holly Mckenzie-Barnes - Catering Officer

Email: usmc.catering@gmail.com

Favourite Climb: Central Massive, Roaches Upper Tier

Tune of Choice: I didn't send one to Issy because I hate music

Memorable Moment: Doing my first sport climbs in Portland and then swimming in the sea at sunset.

Lucy Bradbury- Climbing Co-ordinator

Email: lbradbury1@sheffield.ac.uk

Favourite Climb: The Mortician, Black Crag, Borrowdale

Tune of Choice: Hotel California, The Eagles

Memorable Moment: My second ever multipitch, accidentally doing a pretty tricky HVS not an HS, belaying from a tiny ledge in the middle of the wall rather than the large grassy platform suggested in the guide book, getting very scared, but successfully making it to the top a long while later! Lesson learnt – read the guide book, it’s usually right.

Abel McLinden - Walking Co-ordinator

Email: usmc.walking@gmail.com

Favourite Climb: It's a scramble, but Buchaille Etive Mor via Curved Ridge is pretty good.

Tune of Choice: It's a Longer Road to California than I Thought, The Wind and the Wave

Memorable Moment: First winter climbing route, Route Major in the Cairngorms. A day of -15c windchill and being out for 14hrs in plenty of powder

Guy Harris - Kit Officer

Email: gharris1@sheffield.ac.uk

Favourite Climb: Raindrop, Black Crag, Borrowdale

Tune of Choice: Brothers in Arms, Dire Straits. (Or any techno)

Memorable Moment: Has to be on the Borrowdale weekend when I was climbing the Mortician with Lucy Bradbury. The weather was unbelievable and the views from Black Crag must be some of the best in the UK. The climbing was fantastic but with a series of minor issues I ended up climbing and downclimbing the third pitch about three times. All in all, it was very memorable!

Abi Florence Smith- Social Secretary and Inclusions

Email: usmc.socialsec1@gmail.com

Favourite Climb: Hawkwing, Roaches Lower Tier

Tune of Choice: The House of the Rising Sun, The Animals

Memorable Moment: HPM 2017, the 42 mile fell race. Taking a moment on top of win hill and watching bundles of head torches floating down lose hill and after 13 hours of running, having shots of rum in the sun at our last checkpoint.

Lucy Lloyd - HPM Co-ordinator

Email: highpeakmarathon@hotmail.com

Favourite Climb: Seamstress, Serengeti

Tune of Choice: Holocene, Bon Iver

Memorable Moment: The winter skills course in the Caingorms and our mini expedition up a slope digging bucket seats (it was so much fun, everyone should do it!)

Matt Harmon - HPM Co-ordinator

Email: highpeakmarathon@hotmail.com

Favourite Climb: Rebuffat route, South face of Aiguille du Midi

Tune of Choice: Hooked on a feeling, Blue Swede

Biggest Epic: Running HPM this year with Ben, Dave and Rob and achieving our goal of under 10 hours.

Calum Harvey- Training and Progress Officer

Email: highpeakmarathon@hotmail.com

Favourite Climb: Weedkiller - Raven Tor

Tune of Choice: Since I left you - the Avalanches

Memorable Moment: Being at Porth Ysgo {in North Wales}, it's a good place to spend time.

Louise Baddeley - Alumni Officer

Email: usmc.alumniofficer@gmail.com

Favourite Climb: CMD arete on Ben Nevis

Tune of Choice: Rambling Man, Laura Marling

Memorable Moment: Lake Kaniere to Mount Brown Hut in the west coast mountains of New Zealand's south island. Spent all day hiking continuously up in very damp forest to emerge above the tree line to absolutely no view because the clag was a thick as jam. But we spent a lovely night in a tiny cosy hut feeding the fire tiny bits of dry wood and drinking cheap whiskey.
